Home shoppers aren’t the only ones using Zillow
Why spend time on Facebook when there's Zillow? It’s so much more fun!

During the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic, people turned to Zillow as a means to pass their time in isolating at home. The housing market surge started right when the pandemic began and figuring that Zillow-users were looking for their dream home was a reasonable conclusion.
It’s been found through surveying users that the majority of 2020 Zillow-surfers weren’t in the market to buy. .According to a report by Omnis, 83% of users copped to searching for homes with absolutely no intent of purchasing one.
Omnis Panels, a leading provider of exterior and interior panel solutions, surveyed about 1,500 Americans about their Zillow habits – and here’s what they found:
- 44% of users state they use Zillow every single week
- 44% of users state that they spend an average of two hours per session
What are these users doing on Zillow if not searching for a property to buy? A portion of them are daydreaming about homes they could afford if they won the lottery. And others, are snooping (yes, snooping) on their friends and neighbors. According to the Omnis report, 62% of Zillow users admitted to using Zillow to look at listing photos to get a glimpse inside their neighbors’ homes.
More for Real Estate Enthusiasts
After all, in today’s sellers’ market where buyers are paying gobs over the asking price for homes, people are curious – especially neighbors who see homes just like theirs being sold at a high price.
Admit it…wouldn’t you be curious to know how much your neighbor listed their home for, and what their home looks like on the inside to be worth that price? A majority of us are! A not-surprising 62% of users also admitted to looking up a friend’s house to see the purchase price. And what’s even more shocking is that 39% of users have used Zillow to take a look at the home of their boss or manager. Think about it….your employees can easily find out a lot more about you on Zillow! Even moreso when your house is on the market and the furnishings are all yours!
With so much downtime over the last couple of years, it’s no surprise Americans have been seeking ways to occupy their time. According to those surveyed, 68% said they spent more time on Zillow during the pandemic than they did before. And unlike other social media platforms that negatively impact our health, Zillow surfing has a positive impact. According to those surveyed, Zillow is “therapeutic” – even if you’re using it to be nosy!
